My name is Master Ugwu Peter Obinna. I am a native of Nrobo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State, Nigeria. I was born on 8th March 1990. I am in SS 1 at Saint Theresa’s College, Nsukka. My father is Mr. Fidelis Ogbonna, and my mother is Mrs. Bridget Ugwu.
I was born into a family of eight children: six girls and (2) boys. I am my parents’ first son and fifth child.
My father’s occupation is driving. He is a driver at Akanwu Poultry Farm, while my mother is a petty trader by the street.
I intended to be trained at a university because my father carries all the responsibilities of his family and his brother. This is because the elder brother is dead, and right now, he is taking care of his brother’s family and that of his. He is being paid ₦8,000 (eight thousand naira) a month as his salary, and from that ₦8,000, he pays our house rent, school fees, and water bills and feeds the family.
So my main reason is that despite all these burdens on my father, he has nobody supporting him financially except the little money my mother gets from her shop, which is not even enough for a day’s feeding.
My senior sisters are apprentices in different shops because none of them attended university. Our family’s procedure is that after secondary school, you are given a shop to serve as an apprentice. So, as the family’s first son, I intend to be educated at the University to be useful to my family and society.
I pray that my scholarship request will be granted. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
Ugwu Peter O.
