The Josephine Nwakaego Foundation was established on 9th August 2005 in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria, with the primary aim of continuing the legacy of Mrs. Josephine Nwakaego Odo. Known for her compassion and humanitarian efforts, Josephine’s life of service and generosity inspired the creation of the Foundation, which is dedicated to uplifting the less fortunate, especially in rural communities. The Foundation is registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with the certificate number CAC/IT/NO19173.
The Foundation operates with a mission to give hope to the hopeless and provide essential support to those in need, focusing particularly on widows, orphans, and indigent youth. By addressing both immediate and long-term challenges faced by these vulnerable groups, the Foundation seeks to create a lasting impact on the communities it serves. Central to its vision is the belief that every individual deserves a chance to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.
The Josephine Nwakaego Foundation has a strong connection to the Catholic Church, and its operations are aligned with values of faith, compassion, and integrity. Its activities are currently concentrated within the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, covering eight deaneries. However, the Foundation envisions expanding its reach to other parts of Nigeria as resources become available.
The Foundation is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees comprising individuals who share Josephine’s vision for social change. These trustees play a crucial role in ensuring that the Foundation remains true to its mission and continues to operate effectively. The Board includes notable members such as Arch Evaristus Odo, Dr Kenneth Odo, and Rev. Fr. Chidi Ngwoke, among others, who oversee its operations and provide strategic direction.
While the Foundation primarily focuses on empowering vulnerable groups, it also seeks to promote education, self-reliance, and community cohesion. Its impact is already being felt across the Nsukka Diocese, with many lives transformed through its support and initiatives. As it grows, the Josephine Nwakaego Foundation remains committed to expanding its work, deepening its impact, and honouring the legacy of its namesake.
