My name is Eke Daniel Chizoba. I am from Agushire – Amalla, Udenu Local Government Areas, Enugu State. I was born into the family of Eke John on 1st May 1991. My father’s occupation was Black-Smiting. He also did little farming on his farmland. My father practised a polygamous marriage.
He married his first wife, who bore him two children, and she later died. He later married my mother, Eke Esther, from the village of Asaba in Amalla. When my mother had her first son, she was not well cared for, and she went back to her parents. My father went to apologize for his misdeeds, and my mother returned to his house.
One year later, my father married another woman who had three children for him. My mother later had two other children, including me. He later had a misunderstanding with his third wife, which made her return to her parents with her three children to Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor. In 2001, one of my mother’s relatives took me to Gboko in Benue State to play the role of a servant.
In the year 2003, my father fell sick and later died in the year 2004. I came back from Gboko in that same year. My elder brother became an apprentice in palm oil dealing, after which he returned during the Christian / Moslem’s Kaduna riot and was unsettled by his master.
He is now riding Okada at Ogwashi Delta State. I passed through Primary school and, with God’s favour, won this great scholarship. My mother, since a widow, has been living in Penury as we were bequeathed with nothing to live on except for a few patches of sterile land with a few scattered palm trees, which are highly unproductive.
