Ogbu Albert C

My name is Ogbu Albert C. I was born into the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ogbu Silas (my mother is still living). They are natives of Amaegbu village, Ede-Oballa, Nsukka East Local Government Area in Enugu State. I am the third child in my family. My father died in 1990. I did not even know my father.

When I was eight years old, I started to suffer because there was no one to take care of my family except my mother. Our firstborn in my family was sick up till now. He has a spiritual problem.

My mother does not even have time to work on the farm like other women because she is taking care of the first child in the family. When she gets money from the farming products, she uses it in the hospital because of our firstborn’s problems.

After all that, we found out that his problem could not be solved in the hospital. My mother took him to the Adoration for Deliverance. Because of poverty, we do not normally have meals three times a day. I started working hard by making baskets and cutting down people’s palm fruits. When I did all that to get money, I gave my mother some and used some to pay my school fees in primary school.

When I finished primary school, my mother told me I would stay home because there was no money to sponsor me in secondary school. I expected that because of my family’s condition. When she finished talking to me, she started crying. I asked her why she was crying. She said that you are so intelligent, and there is no money to bring you up.

On Sunday, our Parish Priest announced that there was a scholarship sold with the amount N 100 for those that is poor. My mother went and bought it for me. They told us that we would have an exam. When the exam day came, I went and took the exam. When the result came out, I passed very well. The Priest form Cathedral called us for interview, I also passed. When I reached home and told my mother that I had passed, she was very happy.

I started secondary school at Saint Theresa’s College (STC) Nsukka and am a JSS 1 Student.
