Eze Stella Oluchi

My name is Eze Stella Oluchi. I am a native of Onitsha Umuoruah Obukpa. I was born on September 21st, 1989. I am dark and average in height. I have a round face with a pointed nose. I come from a family of seven, of which I am the 5th issue. I am an SS1 student. My father’s name is late Mr. Titus O. Eze. He passed to glory on June 16th, 2004. My mother’s name is Mrs. Maria Eze.

I felt sick and was taken to hospital; it resulted in appendicitis, which led to an operation. We were charged to pay N12,300.00. After the payment of my hospital bill, she couldn’t continue with her trade, and since then, my mother has been a full-time housewife. She tried farming, but there was no improvement.

I have four brothers and two sisters. Two brothers got their primary school leaving certificate and were sent to be apprentices. Unfortunately, his master sent one of them home, though the master was my relation. He said that he doesn’t want anybody to stay with him again. Meanwhile, my brother has already spent seven years in his house.

As my mother battled with the task that faced her, my second brother was brought home too by his master. His reason was that he didn’t have any money to settle him. He said that he would make sure he did something whenever his business improved, but since then, nothing has been done.

Somebody offered to help my mother and took my two elder sisters. They managed to attain the secondary school level. They are all at home. I have two younger brothers at primary school, both in elementary four. My elder sisters are applying to be sales girls, but they have yet to go for the interview.

I have the lucky chance of being a student of Saint Catherine’s Comprehensive Secondary School because I also lived with my Uncle at Ovoko. My aunty took pains to train me in a private school. The headmaster and proprietor of the school loved me because he noticed that I could make it if I had someone by my side. Then, at my primary six, he introduced a scholarship form to me. I bought the form and prepared myself for exams.

We went for the examination, and as God would have it, among about 150 pupils who took the test, I took the third position. He was so impressed when I came for the interview. After the interview, I was rejected because they said that they wanted each parish in Nsukka Diocese to have at least one scholarship student. Meanwhile, one person from my place was taken the year before me. I went home crying. People consoled me, and I prayed to God for help.

Our headmaster is a Catechist; he went to the bookshop and noticed the names written on the notice board. He found out that some names were written, letting people know that those people had been awarded scholarships. He hurried home to give the message and good news that my name was among them. I was invited to meet the person at the bookshop. After the meeting, I was given a written note as evidence to prove that Joe Odo had awarded me a scholarship.

I went home to let my people know we were all filled with joy, but one peculiar thing is that even today, I have not known the person who granted me such an opportunity. I would be happy if you would let me know the person who took the pains to help increase and multiply my maturity because uneducated people are seen as fools. May God bless and reward you.

Thanks.
